FiddleWiDth is a print and multimedia publication with the intention to showcase the work of and create a forum for creative NYU students in their academic, artistic and extracurricular endeavors. KICKSTARTER GOAL: ACHEIVED

you folks did it! we’ve surpassed our kickstarter goal and have received funding to print. as we finalize the magazine tonight, we’re thinkin’ of you awesome people.

if you donated above a reward level, expect your FiddleWiDth-themed gift in the coming weeks, as well as a copy in the mail. no matter what, though, keep your eyes open for free copies lying around the NYU campus in the coming weeks.

thanks again, contributors. keep fiddlin’!

FiddleWiDth's Kickstarter

Through this website, you can pledge money (any amount over $1) to help FiddleWiDth reach our goal of $680. The full amount of your donation will go towards printing our first issue, which is in itself a work of art: a large poster that has been folded to read like a magazine; when you have read the articles on one side, you unfold the magazine to reveal a full-sized poster on the back.

The printer we have chosen (Linco Printing, Inc. of Long Island City, NY) has estimated that 1000 copies of our full-color, double-sided design on 30lb newsprint will cost $655. Your gracious contributions of any size will help us reach this goal. Thanks a bunch!

FiddleWiDth Magazine is a print and multimedia publication with the intention to showcase the work of and create a forum for creative New York University students in their artistic, academic and extracurricular endeavors. We are seeking donations to launch our first print issue.

FiddleWiDth will provide a community for students outside of their classes, integrating a shared NYU identity while putting a focus on the individual projects and work that show each student’s talents and interests. All content is original and created by the NYU community.

FiddleWiDth covers all the various mediums that NYU students use to express themselves, from art, fashion, music, theater, and film to sketchbooks, internships, activism, photography, design and poetry.

We are interested in creating more than a publication and instead a community where our print and web presences will be supplemented by live events. FiddleWiDth’s website will allow students to further showcase their work with links to personal websites, portfolios, music downloads, Vimeo accounts, and more. We want to be a forum for students to interact with each other in their creative endeavors – allowing them to post “want” ads on our website. Whether they need a photographer, an art director or just another opinion, FWDmag.net will promote collaboration outside of NYU students’ usual artistic circles. In the same way, we want to host events bringing together live music, art exhibitions and creative individuals where students can network and interact within an interdisciplinary community.

By pledging your support you are fostering a community of budding NYU artists, designers, filmmakers, musicians, writers, geeks, photographers, activists, and more—all who, with YOUR help, can share their work and be inspired by the work of other students.

100% of your donation will go towards printing our first issue, which essentially is a work of art in itself. Our first issue will be a large poster that is folded to read like a magazine. When you are finished, you can unfold it to reveal an awesome full sized poster on the back (hence, the “width” in our name). So instead of a “toss it after you use it” mentality, our magazine can be repurposed after reading: you can hang the poster on your wall, rip out some of the sweet student artwork inside, make origami cranes or “fiddle with” it as you please.

a poem by Brittany Habermehl

rachel

you look like a rachel,

and your unpainted symmetricality wrapped in layers of bulky cotton

makes me wonder how small you are underneath those hobo clothes.

your mousey babysitter hair swept up behind your head,

your subtle reactions hidden behind sidebangs and square spectacles.

i’d like to see your body as plain as your face

hair down

black jeans.

FiddleWiDth and friends protest the practice of fracking, which “is a drilling technique that involves injecting toxic chemicals, sand, and millions of gallons of water under high pressure directly into the ground to release natural gas in shale deposits. this mixture of toxins and sediment, along with any natural gas released, can leak to the surface and enter rivers and groundwater in the process.” (http://dontfrackwithny.com /what-is-fracking/)
